There is currently much interest in dissecting the mechanisms of tumor immunity. A new
study shows that a subset of CD4+ T cells that produce the cytokine interleukin-9 (IL-9)
mediate inhibition of melanoma growth in mice and that analogous IL-9–producing T cells
are present in human skin (pages 1248–1253). Could such cells be manipulated to develop
new therapeutic strategies for melanoma?
