During the meeting on the “Uteroglobin/Clara Cell 10-kDa Family of Proteins”, a nomenclature conference was held. J. Klug was nominated as the chair of the session and the following, listed alphabetically, were nominated as cochairs: HM Beier, A. Bernard, I. Callebaut, BS Chilton, J. Daniel, F. DeMayo, TP Fleming, RI Lehrer, J. Lund, AB Mukherjee, M. Nord, JH Shelhamer, and G. Singh. Many conference participants joined this nomenclature session, indicating that a discussion on this topic was much needed. Investigators new to the field pointed out that timeconsuming literature searches were needed to discover that there exists a plethora of names for essentially identical proteins (see TABLE 1 and Ni et al. in this volume for an overview). Experienced researchers also felt that it is awkward and error-prone to always consider all the different names for a family member.
